In bar soaps i d suggest using a mix.
Nowadays even basic bar soap is full of strange caustic chemicals and perfumes.
Which is why i absolutely love this soap recipe.
Coconut oil is often the soap maker s first choice oil as it creates a lovely hard white soap.
I don t need any of that.
For this specific recipe i used an equal mix of olive oil and coconut oil but just pure coconut oil can be used like this great recipe from mommypotamus or just olive oil can be used.
Lathering skin bar 20 superfat makes approximately 44 oz.
You will need to use a digital scale for these measurements.
You can make soap with any oil or combination of oils.
Don t superfat more than about 8 to 10 or the soap will be soft have poor lather and will be prone to the dreaded orange spots or spoilage.
Changing an oil may change the lye amount.
Something made with coconut or olive oil perhaps.
Don t use more than 30 coconut oil in a recipe it will be too drying.
Coconut oil is amazing stuff especially if you use it directly on your skin.
Be sure to look at the superfat percent and change it to 20 or so for any soap this high in coconut oil then click on view print recipe.
The coconut oil would give more lather and cleansing abilities.
When it s made into soap though it creates a very hard bar that is very cleansing and bubbly.
In the end these days i normally only make a coconut oil based liquid soap as it s cheaper to make and prefectly multi use.
I want to make soap using coconut oil 90 and castor 10.
In bar soaps though the difference is huge.
How to make pure coconut oil soap for cleansing and laundry ingredients.
Since your coconut oil percentage is so high i wouldn t recommend going below 15 superfat.
Personally i wouldn t use a recipe that was so high in coconut oil for fear of the soap stripping my skin and leaving it feeling dry and tight.
Go to soapcalc and input your recipe.
If just olive oil is used you ll have a pure castile soap named after that region in spain which is very moisturizing but can take longer to cure.
If you substitute olive oil you will need to recalculate the recipe.
Because this soap is highly superfatted it can create a very dense lather when rubbed directly on skin.
